Getting there: The trailhead for the Escudilla Trail is located south of the mountain in the vicinity of Terry Flat. From Alpine, drive 5.5 miles north on US Highway 191. Turn right onto Forest Road 56 and continue on this good gravel road for another 4.6 miles to a junction. Keep left and drive another 0.5 mile to the developed trailhead.
